Learn how to connect and configure an Instagram Business Account in Chatwik using Direct Instagram Login or Facebook Login.
You can manage your Instagram direct messages directly from Chatwik. To connect your Instagram account, Chatwik supports two onboarding methods:
- Direct Instagram Login (Recommended) – A simple, direct authentication flow using your Instagram Business Account.
- Instagram via Facebook Login (Legacy) – An alternative method that connects your Instagram profile through a linked Facebook Page.
Prerequisites
Before connecting your Instagram channel to Chatwik, make sure you have:
- An Instagram Business Account. If you currently have a personal profile, convert it using Instagram's Setup Guide.
- If using Facebook Login (Legacy): Your Instagram Business Account must be linked to a Facebook Page.
- A Chatwik workspace with the Instagram feature enabled.
How to Create an Instagram Inbox in Chatwik?
Follow the step-by-step process below to connect your Instagram channel:
Go to Inbox Settings
Navigate to Settings → Inboxes → click Add Inbox.
Select Instagram
Choose Instagram from the list of available channel options.
Choose Your Setup Method
Select between Direct Instagram Login (Recommended) or Instagram via Facebook Login (Legacy).
Setup Methods
Direct Instagram Login
Direct Instagram Login provides the simplest, most reliable setup flow without needing Facebook Page management permissions.
How to Connect:
- Click the Continue with Instagram button in the setup wizard.
- Log into your Instagram Business account if prompted.
- Enable Access and manage messages and click Allow to authorize Chatwik.
- Assign agents to your Instagram inbox to handle incoming customer messages.
Ideal For:
- Standard workspace setups wanting the fastest, direct connection.
- Accounts without a linked Facebook Page requirement.
Instagram via Facebook Login
Deprecated Method
Support for Instagram via Facebook Login will be deprecated in future releases. We recommend using direct Instagram Login for simpler setup and better reliability.
Link Facebook Page to Instagram:
Before starting, ensure your Facebook Page is linked to your Instagram business account:
- Open Facebook Pages.
- Select your Facebook Page → go to Settings.
- Select Instagram from the sidebar and connect your business account.
How to Connect:
- In Chatwik Inbox setup, choose Messenger / Facebook Login.
- Click the Facebook Login button to open the authentication popup.
- Authenticate with Facebook, select your Instagram Account, and select the connected Facebook Page.
- Ensure all requested permissions are enabled and finish the wizard.
- Assign agents to your Instagram inbox.
Once connected, any direct message sent to your Instagram account will create a conversation in your Chatwik inbox for your agents to manage and reply.
Additional Inbox Settings
To customize your Instagram channel settings, go to Settings → Inboxes and click the gear icon next to your Instagram inbox.
General Settings
- Enable Channel Greeting: Sends an automated welcoming message when a customer initiates a new conversation on Instagram.
- Enable CSAT: Automatically prompts customers with a Customer Satisfaction survey when an Instagram conversation is resolved.
- Reauthorize: Use this button if you ever need to reconnect or renew access tokens for your Instagram account.
Managing Collaborators
- Open the Collaborators tab.
- Add or remove agents assigned to this Instagram inbox.
- Enable or disable Automatic Assignment of new incoming conversations to assigned agents.
- Click Update to save changes.
Business Availability
- Open the Business Hours tab.
- Check Enable business availability for this inbox to set operational hours.
- Customise the Unavailability Message displayed to customers outside business hours.
Wik AI Note
When Wik AI is enabled on an inbox, the unavailability message is automatically suppressed. Wik AI handles conversations directly outside business hours unless explicitly handed off to a human agent.
- Set specific working hours for each day of the week along with your time zone.
- Click Update Business Hour Setting.
